NPC-3 Requirements: Buildings that meet the NPC-2 requirements and have additional specified systems and areas adequately anchored and braced so that these systems could remain functional after a major earthquake. Buildings must meet these requirements by January 2013.
Systems identified for anchorage and bracing to meet NPC-3 requirements are equipment and fire alarm systems, including conveyance components, in selected areas. Anchorage and bracing must comply with the 1995 California Building Code (CBC) Part 2, Title 24.
Systems that need to be anchored and braced to meet NPC-2 requirements are basic emergency and power systems including:

- Emergency power supplies including generators, fuel tanks, remote radiator cooling systems, and battery cabinets;
- Bulk medical systems including oxygen tanks and other medical gas tanks, vaporizers, manifolds, and regulators;
- Fire alarm systems including control panels, terminal cabinets, annunciator systems, and conduit greater than 2-1/2" in diameter; and
- Emergency lighting including exit signs and overhead egress lighting throughout the building through the exterior path leading to the public way.
The selected areas for NPC-3 include:
- Critical care areas
- Clinical laboratory service spaces
